THE WEAVE SHOP

The museum’s James Alexander Weave Shop is named for that of the real Mr. Alexander, who worked as what was called a “fancy weaver” in New Windsor, NY in the early 19th century. At our weave shop, you will learn about historic methods of weaving fabric on a hand loom, how fabric was natural dyed, and how intricate patterns were followed to create incredibly beautiful textiles.
